Hospitality Legends (1): The Plaza, New York

Escrito el 9 diciembre 2008 por Ramón Adillón en Uncategorized

The mithycal hotel The Plaza of New York, one of the most famous hotels of the world, has just reopened after nearly three years of repair works. The Plaza is back and ready to defend its first position in the luxury hospitality since 1907.

Since its inauguration, back in 1907, The Plaza, a National Historic Landmark and pride of the city of New York, has always been considered the most renowned hotel in the world, even more than that, for a century (so far), has been the paradigm of upscale luxury hospitality.

The building was bought in 2004 by the Real Estate company Elad Properties for 675 million dollars, and between 2005 and 2008 has suffered profound works with a cost of 400 million dollars more!!!. The new The Plaza combines 282 luxury serviced hotel rooms and 180 exclusive condominiums, including multilevel penthouses, providing elegant (and extremely expensive) permanent residences to a bunch of very fortunate people.

The owners wanted to keep the original spirit of the hotel, that is the reason why the works have not affected its three most popular rooms: the “Grand Ballroom”, the “Palm Court” and the “Oak Room”. As stated in its web page: “New York’s most prestigious address returns in all its original magnificence…the distinctive landmark will emerge from a delicate restoration with its glory and history intact”.

Elad properties keep the control of the apartments, and the management of the hotel is in charge of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. The hotel General Manager, Shane Krige, a professional with a sound experience in this kind of luxury accommodation, define luxury as “the relationship between the soul of the hotel and the souls of its guests. It has a different meaning for each person. At The Plaza, luxury means service, an authentic local experience within an environment with no rival”.

I higly recommend to visit the hotel if you ever visit New York, it is an unforgettable experience just to have a look around or have a drink after shopping in the Fith Avenue or walking around Central Park… and if you have between 1,5 and 2,5 million dollars and don’t know where to invest them, you can be one of the exclusive owners of an apartament at The Plaza…(keep on dreaming…).

For complete information, visit the website www.theplaza.com and enjoy the pictures and information about the equipment, infraestructures and services that you can find there.

Kind regards

Ramón
